How To Style Summer Denim with Julia Ann

May 11, 2017

Hey, hi, hello!

This week I had the awesome opportunity to meet up with fellow fashion blogger, Julia Ann.

We both got to walk the Karlie Kloss for Express show together a while back and it was a blast! My favorite part of that show was getting some fresh threads (obviously), but also getting to meet fellow creatives–and Julia was one of them!

Julia is so sweet and her style includes a lot of bold colors and patterns that I’m totally in love with. We both got these denim jackets from the Karlie4Express show, so we thought we would show you all how we like to style them this spring/summer.

Mattea: What are a couple of your go-to ways to style denim?

Julia: I work in a casual office, so I’m in denim almost every day of the week. Right now, my favorite denim looks include denim miniskirts with v-neck tees; dark denim skinny jeans with light denim shirts or jackets; and simple denim dresses with plenty of accessories.

M: Tell us a little about the mindset behind your outfit
J: I gravitate toward neutrals, so outfits like this are me trying to include more colors into my wardrobe. Ha! Spring and summer are known for pastels and neons, but I’m sticking with muted shades and letting the texture do the talking. Also, I found these Free People heels on super sale so I’m trying to create more reasons to wear them. What goes better with a short hemline than heels to make your stems stand out even more?

M: What summer trends are you looking forward to this year?

J: I love retro floral prints, so I’m thrilled to see so many of them available this season. And like every summer, I’m always excited to pull out my cuffed denim short-shorts — especially when I can pair them with ankle booties and a loose tee.

Here are a couple of snaps of how I chose to style my denim this week:

Thank you so much for checking out our summer denim style! Pssst: this cropped denim jacket is available at Express and it’s actually my favorite denim jacket I own at the moment (…I have 4–yikes). I love how it already feels worn in, so the material is pretty stretchy and moves easily. LOVE!

Special thanks to Julia for sharing her styling tips and insight this week.
