My friend sent me an article the other day and it basically touched on how impossible it was for us to reach a level 10 on a happiness scale of 1-10. It claimed that research has proven we seem to sit around a 7 day in and day out. Even with catastrophically such as cancer... happiness levels would apparently drop to 2-5, and then go back to 7. ⠀

Why? Because we’re always in pursuit of more.
A promotion at work.
A better relationship.
More money.
A better house. ⠀
⠀
Improvement is wonderful, but sometimes it’s okay to pause and enjoy for a moment. Create your own 10 and don’t worry about the ‘What ifs’ all the time. Also recognize that you cannot be fully happy all the time, and chances are that you are not always unhappy all the time either. Ebb and flow.

⠀
Stop worrying about the future and what’s coming. Take things day by day. Worrying about what is yet to come distracts from the now and takes time and energy away from the present day you were gifted. ⠀

We seem to be taught that true happiness isn’t always attainable due to the pursuit of more. But I’m beginning to think that it’s much, much simpler than that. (:
